"The Burghers of Holstebro"-sculpture was created by Bjørn Nørgaard. The sculpture consists of a cast of 12 citizens from Holstebro - both men and women. This piece of art is meant to show that today women as well as men can dispute all items in society. The sculpture's title refers to the French sculptor Auguste Rodín's "The Burghers of Calais".

At the end of Nørregade, at Nørreport torv, you see a large flat stone with a group of people on. It is The Burghers of Holstebro, created by Bjørn Nørgaard.

"There are 12 citizens up there, like there were 12 disciples. Bjørn Nørgaard likes things both backwards and forwards," explains tourist guide Ruth Lovmand Rasmussen.

"Citizens are both men and women. The work shows that today, women as well as men can hold any position in society."

Bjørn Nørgaard has also created the artworks 12 Jacob's Ladders, the twelve columns that adorn the square, and the three art churches in the pedestrian street Nørregade; The Hand of Jesus, the Source of Life and the Eye of Odin.

Join Ruth or one of the other tour guides on a free city walk to the art of Holstebroon Wednesdays at 1 pm in July and August. Starting from Woman on Cart. The tour goes among many others works by The Metal Boarand the Monument of Fire.
